Mirna's prejudice-busting, body-positive memoir is told with raw honesty, an adventurous spirit, and a sharp sense of humor. The event will include a book signing, where guests can purchase Valerio's book, A Beautiful Work in Progress. Before the event, Wellfit Girls will host a VIP cocktail reception and a meet and greet with The Mirnavator from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. General admission tickets start at $50 for the speaking event, with ticket prices increasing to $75 on November 1. VIP tickets begin at $150 and include admission to the main speaking event, the VIP cocktail reception from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and the meet and greet with The Mirnavator. VIP ticket sales increase to $175 on November 1 so get your tickets early! About Mirna Valerio aka "The Mirnavator" Mirna Valerio is a native of Brooklyn, NY, a former educator, cross-country coach, ultrarunner, obstacle course enthusiast, and author of the recently published memoir, A Beautiful Work in Progress. Although she began running in high school, she recommitted to the sport after a health scare in 2008. It was then that her love for running and all its attendant benefits were reignited. She soon started her blog "Fat Girl Running", about her experiences as a larger woman in a world of thinner athletes. Mirna's athletic story was featured in the WSJ, Runner’s World, on the NBC Nightly News, CNN, on the CW Network, and in the viral REI-produced documentary short, The Mirnavator. Her writing has been featured in Women’s Running Magazine, Self Magazine Online, Outside Online, and Runner's World Magazine. Most recently, she was chosen as a 2018 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. Photographs with the speaker will be allowed during this time. Food and Drink Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be passed from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Complimentary wine & beer and a full cash bar will be available for VIP guests from 5:30-6:45 p.m. A full cash bar will be available after 6:45 p.m. Latecomers ALL ticket holders must be in their seat 15 minutes before the event begins or their seat may be given to individuals in the standby line. Wellfit Girls is committed to providing unique and meaningful leadership, fitness and empowerment programs for teen girls in Collier and Lee County. Our comprehensive youth development model is designed to build resiliency and deepen relationships with youth through fitness & leadership training, community service, cultural immersion experiences, outdoor adventures & experiential learning opportunities. Girls have the choice to participate in any or all of our programs for as little as three weeks or for as long as four years. Each program concludes with a domestic expedition that guides teens through a combination of physical, mental and interpersonal challenges designed to prepare them mentally, physically and emotionally to overcome past, present and future obstacles. The struggles they will experience on the mountain will correlate to life struggles they may currently have or may have in future years. They will learn they can accomplish anything they put their mind to. The goal is to inspire and empower each girl while nurturing and developing each girl’s individual leadership style. We are building strong women to be our future leaders. We believe you cannot have transformation without tension. Each program is designed to help girls overcome self-esteem issues and learn coping mechanisms as well as social entrepreneurship, leadership and communication skills. The girls workout with a personal trainer, learn yoga and have weekly leadership sessions. The girls are asked to dig deep in terms of who they are now and the person they want to become. The idea is that you are not BORN a warrior, but you GROW into one!
