24 Hour Festival Registration

Event Date: 2020-02-29 17:00:00

Cost: $0

Visual artists, filmmakers, theatre artists, dancers, musicians, and poets race against a 24-hour clock to create unique works based on prompts given by Barry Cavin. Now in its eleventh year, this all-inclusive art happening has been opened up and brought downtown by Ghostbird Theatre Company. Artists of all types and ages are invited to participate. We don’t know how creative you can be in 24 hours, but we do know you’ll have so much fun you won’t even feel the sleep deprivation. Cash awards of $500 will be given to best visual artwork, best video, best live performance, and best musical performance. Rules & Guidelines Participants must register by on a first-come, first-served process. Artists cannot participate without having registered on-line. Artists must be 14 years or older. All registered participants (or at least one registered participant from a group) must come to the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29 to receive the prompts and the complete rules and guidelines. Failure to attend the prompt session will result in disqualification. You must turn in the video, artwork, or the script of your performance or song or poem, etc., on Sunday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m. at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center. All members of your group (if applicable) need to be at the Sidney & Berne Davis at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, as well, so that the order of performances can be established, the performers can prepare for the performances, and the like. Failure to report back by 5:00 p.m. will result in disqualification, and you will not be able to show or perform your work. This is an absolute deadline, and you must plan accordingly. Songwriters, filmmakers, spoken-word artists, and script-based live performances: bring a copy of your song, script, or poem so that the judges can evaluate how well you are using the required elements. Visual artists, performance artists, and musical composers: please provide a statement of how your work includes all required elements. A paragraph will do. All live performances and films will be kept to a five-minute time limit; exceeding this time limit will result in disqualification. Please note that no technical adjustments can be made for the live performances, other than set stage lighting. Also note that all work must be original; any infringement of copyright will result in disqualification. Since this is a free and open event to the general public, we must ensure that video and all performances are family friendly. Visual artists must supply the means to display their work. We cannot hang or temporary adhere the artwork to the walls of the Art Center, and so you need to supply your own easel, stand, or the like, for easy viewing of your art work. Works and performances and video will be judged on how effectively, creatively, and fully they follow the prompts and on the quality of the work itself. Artists will display their works in the provided gallery space after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1. The doors to the public will open at 6:30 p.m., and performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please encourage your friends to attend! Our Esteemed JudgesTo be named later.
