Sanibel artists Deborah Butler and Bea Pappas are exhibiting artwork for the month of October at the Sanibel Community House located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. The work of each artist is very dynamic can be characterized generally as abstract. The public is invited to view their display Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm.

Deborah Butler was born in Tampa and received a BA from Florida State University. She earned an MA from FSU in art history and humanities. Butler taught humanities and art history at Edison Community College (now known as Florida Southwestern State College) for 34 years and served on the Rauschenberg Gallery’s Board.
As an artist, Butler works in mixed media, collage, additive sculpture and, currently, in oil mixed with cold wax. She states, “Art brings the greatest joy to my life, whether I am teaching it, making it, or even just looking at it. I am influenced by my travel, mostly in Europe (my other joy), my experiences, and nature.” Deborah’s work has been exhibited in Michigan and numerous Florida locations. She now serves as chair of the BIG ARTS Visual Arts Committee.
Bea Pappas studied art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as with numerous teachers in workshops. She works in mixed media and has won many awards for her paintings. Painting since 1964, teaching since 1980, Bea notes, “I am thrilled to hang my art at the Sanibel Community House.” Pappas previously served as chair of the Visual Arts Committee at BIG ARTS and she is a huge Red Sox fan.
