Charleston, South Carolina Church Shooting Victims to Discuss
Forgiveness & Reconciliation
(Naples, Florida) – The radical story of forgiveness as a result of the 2015 Charleston, South Carolina church massacre stunned the nation. In the midst of raw and unimaginable heartache, family members of those who were slain at Emanuel AME Church said these transformative words to the shooter, “I forgive you.”
On November 8th, The New Canaan Society Naples in partnership with Covenant Church of Naples will host “Forgiveness Changed Me” featuring Rev. Anthony Thompson and Polly Sheppard, both of whom suffered extreme loss in the racially motivated attack. They will describe their personal journeys to forgiveness and how communities can begin healing the deep divides evident in America today.
The New Canaan Society is a national Christian men’s movement, with 50+ chapters across the U.S. and emphasizes honest, vulnerable friendships. NCS believes that transformation begins with authentic relationships and the desire to learn more about others regardless of cultural and lifestyle differences.
“Covenant Church of Naples is honored to host this powerful event for Southwest Florida residents,” stated Todd Augustine, Grow Pastor of Covenant. “Our diverse city is an ideal place to focus on forgiveness and reconciliation. This story of radical forgiveness will challenge all of us.”
NCS, and Covenant Church of Naples invite the public to this free evening of amazing forgiveness, healing and reconciliation in a broad context.
