C. Hurley, DMin, PhD, was selected and trained as an EMDR trainer by Francine Shapiro, the developer of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He has provided EMDR trainings world-wide, including various locations in the United States, Europe, Israel, and Asia. A licensed psychotherapist since 1980 he has been trained in the major orientations of psychotherapy. He is a Diplomate with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, an Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an Approved Consultant and Trainer with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and the EMDR Institute, as well as a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Psychological Society of Ireland. E. C. was trained in EMDR following 9-11 and within a matter of months, decided to specialize in using EMDR in treatment of acute stress and post-traumatic stress disorders. He built a private practice into a community-based outpatient treatment center specializing in the use of EMDR therapy in the treatment of a broad spectrum of adverse life experiences. Clinically, he specializes in the treatment of persons suffering with complex PTSD across the dissociative spectrum. E. C. is the Founder/CEO of Soldier Center, a treatment and training center near Ft Campbell, KY which specializes in treating military personnel, veterans, first-responders and their families. Dr. Hurley holds graduate degrees in pastoral counseling, counseling psychology and clinical psychology, with a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling and PhD in Clinical Psychology. A retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, his military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf clusters), the Bronze Star Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the U.S. Army’s Air Assault badge. He is the author of the chapter "EMDR therapy in the treatment of military sexual trauma" in the book Treating Military Sexual Trauma edited by Katz, L, (2015) and coauthored a chapter on EMDR therapy in the publication PTSD Case Book (2015) published by the American Psychological Association, and his published research Effective Treatment of Veterans With PTSD: Comparison Between Intensive Daily and Weekly EMDR Approaches (Hurley, 2018) comparing EMDR intensive daily treatment with weekly sessions with outcomes measured at one year follow-up. He is a frequent presenter at the EMDR International Association and numerous other professional conferences. Dr. Hurley is currently in contract with Springer Publishing to author the book A Clinicians Guide for Treating Active Military and Veteran Populations with EMDR Therapy to be published later this year.
