Nobel Prize-winning novelist, Toni Morrison, gives voice to one of Shakespeare's most mysterious characters in this inventive and lyrical retelling of Desdemona's life and murder by Othello. Morrison wrote the play in response to an argument with experimental theater director Peter Sellers, who believed Shakespeare's Othello was outdated. "She spent the next four hours telling me how wrong I was and quoting Othello from memory, saying it was one of the great plays, particularly for our time, because it's not about how they kill what you love, it's about how they convince you to kill what you love," said Sellars in an interview. Once Morrison had written Desdemona, Sellers directed the production, which toured theater festivals around the world.
